A worth cause to sign up to - a campaign to prevent the pernicious use of gas-fracking in the Shannon Basin, Ireland

People who've seen the excellent (though slightly over-long, IMHO) film Gaslands will already know the damage that hydraulic fracturing frequently does to the water table, water supply and environment. The practice is already commonplace in the Benighted States, but we've seen limited incidences in the UK and Ireland - so far. All that may change though, if we don't gird our loins!.

Licences have been granted to two companies to extract gas by hydraulic fracturing / fracking in the Lough Allen basin in Ireland. This has the potential to pollute many lakes, and of course the River Shannon.

Fracking has been banned in France. In the U.S there have been huge and well-publicised problems with the resulting pollution of land and water, and many serious health problems for animals and humans.

Please, please - spread the word - don't let the unacceptable become acceptable! Sign the petition today, if you would, and register your vote to limit our addictive pursuit of fossil fuels at any cost....
